I have had many diverse experiences in education. I have worked with learners of all walks of life. Whether I was helping a child learn how to walk for the first time or I was working on friendly competition in an all-boys private school enviroment, I have learned from each experience.
I initially started out my undergraduate degree in Elementary education. I volunteered at the McGill Daycare in my spare time. We would work on developing each child's skills in literacy and motor abilities. We went to visit libraries, puppet shows and other cultural events around Montreal. I spent two summers working at MBSC language and sports camps in Boston. I was in charge of the younger campers and I made sure that they were safe and satisfied with the camp experience. I eventually worked as an au pair in Montreal, in which I took care of a young infant from the time she was four-months-old to nine-months-old. I researched positive educative techniques suitable to the child's age and needs.
Then, I rediscovered my passion for the English language. I enrolled in a number of English Literature courses at McGill University. I studied a variety of topics, including: Canadian Literature, Milton, Shakespeare, American Literature, Postcolonial Literature and Pop Culture.
I was able to share my passion with students on diverse abilities, needs and interests. I worked at Westmount High School with a challenging group of students. However, I was able to ignite an interest in English Language Arts throughout a well-planned and creative Script Unit. I worked with many gifted students at the all-boys private school, Selwyn House. I quickly learned the unique needs of the school and adapted my teaching style to meet my students' needs. I took part in the Athletic and Drama Programs to better integrate into the school community. At the High School of Montreal Adult Centre, I worked with adults, age 16-50, to help them to put their pasts behind them and to achieve their academic goals.
